There are two Tamarindos, Grande and Pequeno. You don't have to walk to the one I'm thinking of, you can drive right up to the beach below the Tamarindo Beach Cottages. The beach is beautiful and the water is as calm as Luquillo on the big island - the downside is that if you look back when you are in the water, you can see the garbage dump.
