This type of thing has been a major discussion in several threads. Any holiday weekend has crowds on the ferries.

It's best to secure your tickets in advance (Henry will do that if you book his taxi service). If the 9am ferry is full, you can almost surely get on he next one.

There's just no guarantee on a Friday before a holiday weekend. I can say for sure though that you're a lot better off on Friday morning than Saturday morning!
