Hello Forum,
I have been going to St.John for years, but I have Culebra on the brain. Please tell me what has drawn you all to this Island ?

Thanks Reef !

The quaintness of the island, the drop dead beautiful beaches, the lack of commercialism, the prices, the lack of crowds, no cruise ship crowds, the people, should I go on??

Thanks Richard,
That is my chuckle for the day. Now I can go to work and smile all day at my sixth graders.

To put it in perspective GH, Culebra is like St. John was about 30 years ago.
Rustic and wonderful...can't wait to return.

Don't pay any attention to Richard....she's got it all wrong. We go there for the fresh dairy products.

c'mon guys you cannot treat a newbie like this!

GH, welcome to the forum!

What drew me was the little dot next to an island in the Caribbean. On the map I had with me there was exactly one road - it's pretty much like that still :)

Enjoy Culebra!

Even though I have been visiting Culebra for years and years, I still get a chuckle when I am on the way to Zoni and see the "highway" signs that indicate I am on "Route 250 EAST"! Now that's a highway system one can't help but love!

ok, ok

in seriousness a former co-worker who bummed around that part of the world in the 80's described it as Bosie puts it - St. John and the rest of the VI minus 30 years (although that's changing)

I can only imagine what it was like then.

My favorite sign of all-time was at the cemetary expansion several years ago. Everytime there is a public works project going on in Culebra (maybe in PR too) they put up a government sign touting how much the project costs and what the project entails. So when they did the cemetary expansion there was a very large sign in front of the graveyards that exclaimed:

"Visión de Futuro"

ok Michael, we'll quit playing, but it was only in good humor.

what drew me and my wife to Culebra was the camping on the beach. I had looked at Cinnamon bay and had called them twice to ask questions. They were not "willing" to talk, aka rude. Shortly after that an article appeared in the St Louis newpaper about this little island. I called the camp ground and was well received and so we started making plans.

In summary, three things drew us to Culebra.....the people, the beach and the snorkeling. And one other thing.....this forum.

Frank, I hope you have a photo of that "Visión de Futuro" sign. I may have to appropriate the idea.

ok, back on topic, it's laid back, no agenda, not much to do (off water), so nothing to stress about. no 'right' place to stay or eat. everyone's a little sandy after a day and no one cares.

if your cellphone gets a signal - turn it off and let the battery die like a neglected tamagochi.
