Ferry / Campground timing question
Culebra, Puerto Rico

Apologies if questions along these lines have been posted already but:

I will be getting into San Juan on the afternoon of Sunday (the 17th), where John will be picking me up for the ride to Fajardo. It looks like I will be just making the 7:00pm ferry provided that everything before that works out alright - including late afternoon traffic.

Is the 7pm Sunday ferry to Culebra a very crowded one? Should I worry about getting tickets in advance, if possible?

Also, if I am hoping to camp that night, does anyone know if it is possible to check in that late? Their official site didn't seem to mention a closing time.

I miss the high speed ferry...

Thanks in advance! I can't wait to be back.

Hi George. There have been numerous threads and posts about this recently, including just a few minutes ago. It's worth taking the time to read them. Going to Culebra on a Sunday night isn't prime time (most are going the other direction), but August is August.

As for the campground, if the office isn't open, just pitch a tent and handle the paperwork in the morning.

Thanks Mort,

I knew from other posts that weekends can be rough, but was hoping to hear what you said about me going against the rush on the 7pm.

Have a great time. Definitely check out Section E before you pick a spot, though it will be dark when you arrive. Section E is quieter and prettier. It's a lot farther walk but worth it.

That's definitely the plan. Last time I stayed at a site that was just in from the sinking Sherman - maybe the far end of D? And that was amazing. So I'm excited to see section E this time. Now I just have to practice pitching a tent while blindfolded.

Have a great weekend.

The tank is at section E. We camped in that same place and loved it.

I think you're going to be okay that week, crowd-wise. The following week will get more crowded due to the upcoming Labor Day weekend. But for some reason there is often a bit of a lull in the third week of August from what I understand.
