Traveling to PR in August 2008
Culebra, Puerto Rico

Hi There! I'm traveling to Puerto Rico at the end of August over labor weekend. I read couple of the blogs and someone said that the port sells ferry tickets to the island in advance. I've tried several times to the port's numbers but noone ever answers.
Does anyone know how busy the port gets during the end of August? We are planning on visiting the island on August 29th, Friday. I'd like to find out how busy it is during that time and if it's safe to just get to the port on that day around 7:30am to purchase ferry tickets for the 9am ride. If anyone can fill me in with the info I'd really appreciate it!
Also, what would be the best way to travel to Fajaro from Dorado without making stops? If we have to make one stop in San Juan that's completley fine!

Christine, that's Labor Day weekend, one of the more crowded times of the year.

Even if you are lucky enough to score tickets in advance, even then you're not guaranteed a seat. I suggest reading recent threads about the ferry that talk about holiday periods.

We just got back Saturday and intended to do the ferry over Thurs. to Culebra. Went by to get tickets on Wed. afternoon but they told us only way to get tickets was to be there at 4:30 am to get in line for tickets. Have a 11 year old daughter and staying in San Juan so we decided to fly instead. I would encourage you to do the same especially for the 9 am ferry. At the airport we met 3 guys who went by ferry that morning at 7 and the line was over a mile long. Keep in mind also you need 6 people to fly. We had 4 but had no problem getting more. They said the first flight someone most always comes in. I read all info on ferry on posts thinking it could not possibly be that bad especially mid week, but glad we decided to fly.
