Snorkeling gear is intimate stuff. I recommend bringing your own.

Rental masks are notorious for leaking, and the fins rarely fit right. And free stuff is even worse.

Amazon.com has some great deals on snorkel packages.

I would not buy a mask online. You need to try for fit. It has to hold on to your face without the straps!

This will make your snorkeling experience a completely different one :)

Enjoy Culebra!

As you say, it's definitely better to buy good masks and try them on first. But a brand new online mask is far better than a rental or freebie. It sounded to me like she didn't want to spend much money. I hate the idea of putting something in your mouth that has been in lots of other people's.

If you're just looking for something cheap and easy, you can't beat Amazon's $30-40 for a whole set of snorkeling equipment.
