Bicycling on Culebra - possible?
Culebra, Puerto Rico

Hi - Just curious. Is it possible to bike from town to Playa Flamenco? We'd like to come in January but want to stay in town and go to the beach everyday. I just haven't seen a lot about bikes and bike rentals on the various forums. We'd rather not rent a car if possible.

About how long would it take to bike to and from the beach? Is it up and down some steep hills?

I've seen a place listed on here called culebrabike.com, so I've emailed them also.

Any thoughts or experience would be appreciated. Thanks!

Good afternoon,

Culebra is a GREAT place for biking. We used to live on Tortola, in the British Virgin Islands & many roads there were very steep, with windy switchbacks. Thus, we think Culebra is perfect for biking. Flamenco is very do-able & there is just one long-ish, but gentle hill (longer coming back from Flamenco).

I just came back from a bike out to Zoni & back (5 miles each way from us here at the Palmetto), which was a good ride, but again, not impossible.

There are 2 places to rent bikes-Culebra bikes in town & Dick & Cathy rentals-who deliver. Both are good places to rent from.

If you would like more bike riding info. you can email me directly at palmettoculebra@yahoo.com.
