I just know that e.g. last Easter it was a problem for a lot of small vacation rental owners whose guests did not show and wanted a refund due to the ferry not operating - something that definitely would have been covered by insurance. And it would have paid for the hotel in San Juan on top of that!
These lost days can never be sold again. With the prices paid for properties in Culebra these days I know that the income from the rentals is badly needed to pay for the mortgages. I think renters should be aware that, yes things can go wrong, and no the VR owners on Culebra cannot afford to 'cover' for them. Especially since you may purchase insurence for 25 bucks.
When I book a plane, order dinner or make any kind of commitment, I do not expect the other party to cover for changes in my plans - no matter whether that's due to the dog eating my homework, the ferry not running or I simply changing my mind.
How do other people deal with no shows requesting their money back?
Enjoy Culebra!
