Dinghy Dock

I just have to say that going to this restaurant was the worst experience on this beautiful island. The first night we went we figured it was busy so the service was slow. The next day we go and the waitress and waiter are sitting at a table and continue to sit there as we come in, they didn't even seem to notice us. After the first five minutes of watching them just hang out I had to sit and see how long we would sit there, we sat 15 minutes when the waiter came over and said you can go get the menus there over there, and sat back down. That is when we got up and walked out. You get better service from the guys selling food on the side of the street!

It's called Culebra time. You have a long day at the beach, come back around 4p, but the restaurants don't open until 6 - 6:30p. Dingy Dock is usually good. Food and service can get tough at time, but that's part of the charm of the island. Hope you come back to visit us!

If you expect quick service in Culebra then you will be dissapointed. They are not into the rush, rush of life as we are in the states. However, take the time you wait to admire the view from Dinghy Dock. Feed the fish. Have a drink a RELAX! That is what this island is all about.

The food is great there especially breakfast. The people are friendly, Judy serves a mean Woo Woo! Happy hour is a must. It is when you learn the most from the locals about the island.

I don’t expect 5-star service, but neither do I expect a “not, my job, man” attitude. I thought the motivation for acceptable level of service by wait staff is a good tip. Restaurants are in the hospitality business. I would imagine being hospitable would be important. If there are so few eating establishments and no real competition for customers, it’s like the dining car of a railroad train. If you don’t like the service what is your alternative? Culture is different from place to place and country to country.All I can say is I prefer societies in which the people make guests feel welcome. I will be able to give my report on Culebra based on my own observations soon, after my first visit coming up in late April or early May. I hope it will be a positive experience.

I was there in November and wished that we could have stayed longer. Sorry to hear you had a bad experience but I had lunch and dinner there for 2 days and it was excellent (food and service). There is no doubt that they are a little laid back, but that's the beauty of it, you go to places like Culebra to get away from the stressfull places we all come from.

I agree we loved this place! Had Breakfast there everyone morning. The breakfast is great and cheap! Enjoy and relax.

"Island time" is a fairly universal phenomenon throughout the Caribbean. Certainly, any place that has the laid-back charm that Culebra has, is not going to have a fast-food feel. Having talked with several people who operated restaurants or were attempting to open restaurants, I came to appreciate that on a tiny island like Culebra, even keeping the place staffed is a huge challenge all its own. With the cost of living fairly high and the wages fairly low, experienced help is scarce. I witnessed cooks and waiters from other establishments actually volunteering to staff shifts when the effort was being made to re-open the restaurant at Tamarindo, in the hopes that the economic activity would benefit the whole community.

I agree with the other posters. If a New York City pace is what you seek, go to one of the casinos on the big island. To maximize your pleasure on Culebra, relax with a cold Presidente, bring your book and binoculars to the Dinghy, go with the flow and see how slowly your heart can beat. After all, are you in a hurry to get to the office? ;-)

Loved Dinghy Dock! The lunches were great. We sat at the bar most of the time. Judy was the bartender. She was always funny attentive and really knew the island. I did see people getting upset when they came in for lunch and coulndt get anything to eat . They only serve lunch untill 2;30
so get there 15 min. before or your shut out

Love the Dinghy D. The strip steak was the bomb. The breakfast burrito is on point. The fish was juicy and tasty. And the view of the harbor is beautiful. Take a chill pill and soak up the atmosphere. It's a vacation.

Back to the NYC grind. Feeling refreshed and brand new, and Dighy D is part of the reason for that.

Dingy Dock was a great breakfast experience. After heading over to Culebrita for a few hours we came back for breakfast at DD. The coconut french toast with guava syrup was the bomb! Feed the fish while we waited for our breakfast, in typical island time. Our server was quiet but friendly. All in all, a good breakfast for a reasonable price with a superb view! What more could you ask for?
