Oh the questions....
Culebra, Puerto Rico

Hola Everyone!!
I am planning a trip to your beautiful island in mid April and am trying to figure out what is the best way to approach all things we would like to do in such a short time. We are only looking to sit and relax on the beaches, some snorkeling, and explore the island. We do understand that Culebra is a quaint, rustic, and unspoiled island and that is exactly what we are looking for. [:D] I do have a few questions tho... Such as what is the best way to get from Culebra from San Juan? Our flight out is early Monday and I would love to spend as much time on the island as possible. I have looked into flying, renting a car and publico but have run into a few snags. The car rental places do not seem to open on Sunday, we plan on flying in on thursday and would really like to experience a diifferent adventure leaving, and I'm not sure how to check out the publico. I have read different things about a high speed ferry but can not find any info on it as of late. I was wondering if it is still operational and could perhaps be a way to get back to San Juan on Sunday? I know we would love to experience the rain forest there but I'm not sure if we take the publico if this is an option, thus why we had wanted to rent a car and drive back to San Juan...maybe on the next trip:). Any help that any of you would like to offer up is greatly appreciated! I can't wait to be there. Have a fabulous day in the sun! It's a mere -35 here today with the windchill. BRRRRRRR. :)

You could fly to Culebra from Isla Grande airport (15 min from SJU and $15+tip for taxi) one way on Air Flamenco for around $55. Then when you leave Culebra, take the ferry to Fajardo and rent a car at the Fajardo airport (near the ferry I believe). So then you would have Sunday to explore the main island in your rental, and perhaps be able to drop it off at SJU. or...
Fly to and from Culebra,($100 per person, take the taxi to SJU, rent a car... but IMHO if you're only here from Thursday and leaving early Monday, I would spend all my time on Culebra and leave the mainland for another trip. You can fly back to the mainland and just taxi it to Old San Juan, spend the night and taxi to SJU in the am.
OK, I'm stopping. I don't know if any of this makes sense.
PS There is no high speed ferry. The ferry goes to and from Culebra via Fajardo, 1 1/2 hour ferry ride, about 3 hours from Fajardo to San Juan.

You were making great sense!!! :) I have been tossing around the same ideas. I'm just trying to get it all in order before we get there so that I don't have to be paniced when I get there.. Mind you I wouldn't mind not getting back home :) The kids however may have something to say about it lol. They are not making the trip with us. :) Thank you for your time and your help! Have a fantastic day!

Bosie makes perfect sense, esp. since your flight home is early AM. there are a few tales of woe on this board regarding late departures from Culebra and connecting flights at SJU.
