Flying to Culebra
Culebra, Puerto Rico

Hi everyone -

First of all this forum is great and so helpful! It is getting me even more excited about our trip! Too bad we have to wait until the end of June! That said, we have tickets to San Juan but I haven't bought the tickets to Culebra. After looking at the options I think we are going to opt to fly and it looks like there are a couple options but I still had some questions.

1. Is it easiest to fly from San Juan or is it worth the money saved to fly out of Isla Grande?
2. When should I buy tickets? Do the prices fluctuate? Do they sell out? (I am trying to space out the expenses on my credit card but don't want to get burned by waiting!)

Thanks for your advice!

Hi,

We just came back from a week on Culebra. Awesome place! I'm sure you are going to have a great time.

Flying from Isla Grande is a good idea. The taxi to Isla Grande from SJU was $15. When you come out of SJU go up to the taxi booth at the curb, tell them where you are headed, they tell you the cost and write up a sheet to give the taxi driver. No screwing around there.

Buy tickets soon. Many Puerto Ricans will be travelling to Culebra in the summer. We flew Air Flamenco and had no problems.

1. In my opinion, best to fly from Isla Grande, as there are many more flights and airline choices from Isla Grande than there are from the big airport.

2. Prices don't fluctuate; it's the limited number of seats you have to worry about. Sell-outs happen on holiday weeks/weekends. If you are staying THROUGH July, you should purchase tix as soon as you can afford to. If you are coming/going in June, you can probably wait to purchase until mid-May/early-June to purchase.

Happy Diving!
Debbie
