Do we need to rent a car?
Culebra, Puerto Rico

Hello! Four of us are going to be camping on Playa Flamenco. I was wondering if we're going to need a car while we're in Culebra. We will be there for two nights.

We want to snorkel, possibly visit Culebrita, and hike...

How would we catch a water taxi to Culebrita from Playa Flamenco if we don't have a car? What about snorkeling?

Thanks!

Lily, Willy's publico can get you to Flamenco and he also does water taxi to Culebrita. With only a few days on the island make arrangements asap. Willy is a great guy. Have fun. David

Simple answer. No.

My family of 7 camped for ten nights with no car. We originally planned to get one for some of the time, but we never needed to.

For two days, you'll have plenty of great things to do within walking distance. No need to go to Culebrita when you have Carlos Rosario and Tamarindo just across the hill.

Just my opinions!

Another question! How do we get food / meals if we're camped out at Playa Flamenco without a car? What do people usually do? Thanks again!

There are lots of publicos. Willy's is just one of the services.

They come and go from Flamenco all the time, especially during the day.

In town, you can get them at the ferry doc, especially during the day.

At night, it's a good idea to have a couple of phone numbers, such as Willy's. When you arrive in Culebra, you'll be taking a publico to Flamenco, so just ask them for their phone number at the time.

As for food... Flamenco has kiosks with things like chicken on a stick, hot dogs, etc, during the daytime hours (10 - 4 primarily).

Taking the publico into town (and back) costs $2 per person each way. There are a lot of restaurants and at least two good grocery stores. All are in each walking distance once you're in town.
