Dogs on Flamenco
Culebra, Puerto Rico

Someone raised the question, whether they are allowed. Does anyone know what the rules are and how they are handled?

Enjoy Culebra!

Michael

Allowed? Handled? In my limited experience, dogs appear late in the afternoon or at sunset by ones or twos - jumping joyfully, snuffling rich scents and accompanied by responsible adults. I also saw a group of horses being ridden by humans - exhibiting horse behavior. Well handled......Allowed?

I know that some animals are allowed for sure. We saw a lot of fish, quite a few cats, and two small snakes. And a couple of humans who should probably be re-categorized.

We were told on our last trip to Culebra (two years ago) that dogs were not allowed on Flamenco Beach because of the turtle nests. We went farther down the beach, and didn't have any problems with our dog on the beach. He has to stay in the shade anyway. Flamenco Beach isn't really the spot for him. :)

Rough translation:

Only dogs that are allowed are service dogs. If dogs have been seen at Flamenco, they have arrived there on their own, and do not have owners. I am having trouble with "Cuaquier", but believe it means "for more information, contact. . ."

Because of the turtle nests and preservation of the beach in general, it makes sense to me that domesticated dogs are not allowed on Flamenco.

Happy Diving!

We took our Chi's over to Culebra, and they had a great time. The only thing that traumatized them was the small plane ride over from Isla Grande. Other than that, they loved the beaches, seeing the huge dogs (horses) outside the screen door (our dogs have never seen horses before last week), and meeting everyone on the island.
