When to Come?
Culebra, Puerto Rico

Hello,

I traveled to Culebra in May and had a great time, such an awesome place, can't wait to come back!

Now I am planning my trip for next year and are trying to choose which month to come. I really want to come when there AREN'T a lot of people, May was nice but I want less crowds if possible.

When should I come where I can expect the least amount of people?

THANK YOU to everyone on this forum who responds to peoples questions, it really helps!

Thanks Again!

def. not Easter, New Year's, most winter months (cheaper if you don't anyway) and many major holidays. although New Year's eve is a hoot at the ferry plaza - I wish I was going this year. avoid weekends if you can.

I went over July 4th once and except for Sunday it wasn't too packed. we just went to Zoni instead of Flamenco.

and even if there are too many people, don't forget remote places like Rosario, I've only encountered others there once and that was a New Year's weekend (spent NY day itself nursing a hangover at Dinghy)

I heard a rumor they had canceled the ferry dock New Year's celebration this year ... can anybody confirm this?

Hi Beth,
I went to Culebra in late September and think I only ran across 20 people the entire week! Of course, it's hurricane season at that time and a lot of people take their vacations at that time, so many places were closed, BUT, it was still awesome. August and October would be good months too.

Beth - anytime in August, September, October, November (before Thanksgiving), but the risk is hurricanes.

Frank - Last week when I was there, the celebration was back "on". Are you John and Barbara's friend?

Happy Diving!

Debbie-

That's good news on the celebration ... getting the entire island's population within 200 square yards is always fun! :-)

As for John and Barbara ... I am married to John's cousin but consider both J&B great friends and wonderful members of my family. They are the reason we discovered Culebra and shall always be grateful!

And how do you have the pleasure of knowing them? <vbg>

Frank,

I think you have the pleasure of knowing me. We met at the NYE celebration in 2006, I believe. Here's a picture of my husband. Recognize him? ;>)

At the risk of hijacking this thread ... NOW I remember!
Happy Diving, indeed! Will be spending NYE with John and Barbara later this month, hope to see you then!

I can't believe it took me so long to make the connection. Every time I see John I call him Frank. Oops. See you on NYE!

Happy Diving!

So Aug doesn't have crowds? I am really looking for no one to be there, but also good weather, tricky I know....

Out of Aug - Nov which month would you pick?

Thanks

Me? I would pick November ... August and September can be pretty rainy. October either way, but your best bet for good weather is November. (out of those months)

The term "crowds" of course is all relative. Even during President's Week the beaches are not crowded during the weekdays ... it's the weekends where it gets busier. On those days we just hike to Rescaca, Brava or take off for Zoni. Viola: no crowds!

Of course, Culebra is wonderful 12 months a year ... everybody can agree on that!

I have had Zoni to myself in February, and seen Carlos Rosario crowded (maybe 20 people) in May. "Crowded" on Culebra is more a function of scarce parking places, waits at restaurants, and no vacancies at guest houses than packed beaches.

even it does rain it usu. blows over fairly quick - a good excuse to get back in the water for more snorkeling or curling up under a bush with your beach towel for a nap.

otherwise temps are pretty much the same year-round.
