Are there as many free ranging horses on Culebra as there are on Vieques. I know that Culebra is much smaller than Vieques, but did not see much posted about the horse population there. TIA Vicki in TN

I have never seen free-ranging horses during my 2 stays at the Flemenco campground. However last Feb., towards sunset time, a large group of horses with riders galloped onto Flemenco (from a roadway beyond the parking lot & towards the shark pen), completed at least one circle, then galloped past the 2 hotels towards the shark pen & exited on a road way there. My friends & I were 1/4 mile away, glimpsing this through a misty haze; by walking along the beach following the hoof prints, we could smell the horses & almost feel the excitement of their gallop.

I've noticed that there are many free-ranging roosters and chickens. I guess it's not the same, though. But they can be quite exciting. There were several nights when they got me so excited I couldn't sleep.

My first morning on Culebra at the campground was a free-range horse show...hearing noise outside the tent around dawn and seeing three mares and a male...having a nice little morning session a few feet away from me, one by one by one.
I've seen those horses loose and tied up at various times. But it was certainly...a way to start the day laughing...very, very quietly. Horses do wander around, but I don't think they are *wild* horses.
