We went to the *amazing* island of Culebra for our honeymoon- and I like to eat great food so here's where I found it (least expensive first)
This review is really loooong!:
The kioskos at Flamenco beach- good empanadas, Great grilled chicken/meat skewers & rice and beans (mmmmm).
Barbara Rosa's next- always wonderful food and just the most comfortable atmostphere anywhere- it's BYOB and she won't take your order unless you have a table- maybe have lunch or an early dinner on busy nights, seems like long lines are common at rush hour.
Best Fish and Chips - but - careful of the fishies with bones (kingfish?)
I loved sitting there eating while the fisherman brought his day's catch up to her to approve. Freshie!
Heather's pizza is where we had cold beers and tasty pizza and met many people and shared stories- my favorite social scene.
But the finest meal we had on the island was hands down Juanita Bananas! The building is so intriguing, just a fancy A frame with porches (made me want to make one)- rustic but with some of the finest views on the island. Service didn't blow me away but the food was the best we had there. We went on sushi night & my husband had sushi- which I usually don't like- but the flavors and the texture were heavenly- just a perfect balance.
Fried grouper fingers were like perfect grownup fish sticks, with a crispy tempura batter and strawberry sauce- so tasty. They grow their own hydroponic herbs and vegis (a refreshing change from the usual, dated produce on the island) Juanita Banana's is well worth the money if you want to have a great meal on the island~!
ps- I love Culebra, and I dream about it often ;) We'll be back in Feb. for our anniversary!
