Laurie, you've got me curious!

First, where from upstate NY do you live? I grew up in Syracuse.

Second, how is it that you have arranged your life to spend three months on an island?

Third, do you travel alone often? Is it your preference? I did one trip like that once and felt kind of bored being alone, though it didn't help that I kept moving (it was a motorcycle trip) which made it hard to make friends.

Feel free to not answer all these personal questions! LOL.

BTW... I'll be camping with my family at Flamenco for 11 nights in early January.

Perhaps getting involved in community would suit a traveler such as yourself.. ... I believe there may be volunteer opportunities - at the public school and/or tramping through backcountry looking for near extinct plants. Does anyone know about these?

Good morning Laurie,
Stop by the Palmetto Guesthouse as my husband & i just moved up to Culebra from Tortola & we can chat about the ilons!

Re: volunteer opportunities, i belive that Waleska, the principal, is looking for native English speakers to volunteer w/a reading program for the kids. Also, the day care at La Asociacion Educativea por Desarrollo Humano de Culebra i believe would welcome some volunteer help, too, for any interested.

Have a great day!

I echo Mort - jealousy reigns...

my grandmother grew up around there and Schenectady and elsewhere, last time we all got together we met at Lake Kueka near Penn-Yan (sp?)

Crazy. I'm moving to Culebra in november from upstate NY as well. And plan on camping for as long as possible! Apparently I'm not the only Nyer that fell inlove with the island!

You guys rock! I think you should document your time there camping and getting to know people and stuff. I want to move there and teach english there. Can anyone get me a phone number or an email address of the local school there? Thanks.

I would love post cards if you can manage that? I can start a facebook club about people wanting to move to Culebra.

Talk to you!

Ariana
