Red Hot Fish Bone Bumper Sticker
Culebra, Puerto Rico

I finally placed my green/yellow fish bone sticker on my jittney's rear bumper. Get your red hot one while you're there on Culebra. I am soooo connected to Culebra now. Do you suppose folk'll beep when it's seen?

Believe it or not, I once saw a Culebra sticker on a beat up Celica driving down Peachtree Street in Atlanta. It took me so long to absorb that I was really seeing what I was seeing that the car got away from me before I had a chance to catch up with it.

Most of my kayaking group has been to Culebra and we all have stickers on our boats - Culebra has a better navy than the one that left the ordnance behind, even if it operates in the Ozarks.

Also, when we go to the New Orleans Jazzfest, we raise our totem standard(helps us find the group in the crowd). In addition to a jolly roger and a Gumby kite, it sports a Culebra marine flag.

Pirates, Gumby and Culebra...somehow that doesn't seem like an odd mix at all (of course, I've had a crush on Gumby all of my life, what can I say?)!

I just got home from work, looked at my back bumper, and wondered if I have my green/yellow sticker on up-side-down. Woe is me. I need to be informed.......the pointy end goes to the left or right? or does it matter?

The single point, where the tank sits on Flamenco, goes to the upper left / northwest. The harbor empties to the lower right / southeast. That little flyspeck on the northeast, standing on Zoni, is moi.

Oh dear - my pointy end goes to the right, so the sticker is incorrect. .. sigh
will this matter in Maine? Doug, will it matter to you?

Hey, if you're standing on Brava looking into the interior, you'd turn the sticker the way Owli has it, to match what you're seeing. If it wasn't for magnetic north, it'd all be academic and subject to claims of executive privilege.

Gosh Michael, now that you ask that, I realize I haven't been watching...but I do know where much of it goes, regardless of which swirling direction takes it there.

Flushes: the important and salient question is not right or left, but clock-wise vs. counter. Given the lack of a fixed registration point it's all relative otherwise. I can't believe that had to be said.

of course privies and field latrines don't tend to spin in any direction (usu.).

Richard, I was going to counter with Colriolis and that he certainly used left and right, only to find out that the Northern and Southern hemisphere - Coriolis - toilet flushing is, at least according to Wikipedia, an urban legend ...:

Enjoy Culebra!

is one looking at the basin facing the tank, or is one sitting on the edge of the tub holding a friend's hair back?

yeah I guess you're still right...

No worries R. Emmet, there is no up-side-down, todo esta al revés. If a fish swims west, it will eventually arrive in the east. Fish can arrive in the west by swimming towards the east! Fish can simply 'float' in place. Fish can also dive, and in this case... the fish can dance! Con las manos arriba, en un solo pie. Perspective is everything, and under constant change. It's all good.
Hurricanes spin anti-clockwise in the northern hemisphere and clockwise in the southern hemisphere. Just like bathtubs. It's either because everything moves eastward at 1000 mph near the equator and at 1 mph near the poles, or, ...it's magic.

Kanaka, bathtubs and sinks are not influenced by the Coriolis force - check out the link above. I thought so too, but alas, I was wrong.

Enjoy Culebra!

Michael...the bathtubs and sinks do NOT go around at all. That was you going around them (unless you live in a Needle (Seattle Needle) like building, in which case the bathtubs and sinks might just go around).
I do know this thread is making me feel a bit dizzier than usual, however. Excuse me while I go find a stationary receptacle to swirl around in.

Michael, you may not be wrong. The Coriolis force is ever-present, but very weak. The problem with bathtubs, sinks, and toilets, is that the effects of the force are usually constrained by physical surroundings impeding clockwise or anti-clockwise gyration. A large round smooth basin with a very small hole in the center and no motion will detect the Coriolis force. It must drain slowly because it takes hours for the force to produce a circular flow. All moving masses of gas or liquid are subject to the flow when allowed time, undisturbed. -According to Wiki. ...Menos Es Más.

yeah but, and it's a big but, if you use noon as reference the water will swirl from left, but.... BUT if you use 6 as the ref. the water will come from the right.

Kanaka: it's true, swim far enough East and you come from the West.

wherever you go - there you are.

if I ever get a tattoo that's gonna be it.

In Maine we've had some great rain & storms this summer. A friend said that during one storm, the lightening strikes were amazing to watch on the bay as 'the force' hit water. In coastal Maine the leaves are beginning to turn color & the Common Ground Fair is in late Sept.

That particular bumper sticker wound up heading south down the road from Hope, ME on a tow truck; the auto driver had jumped from the car without setting the brake or placing the car in gear.....on a quasi hill. No person was hurt when the car rolled backwards, gained momentum and came to rest in a ditch jammed firmly against an electric pole.

Luckily the package from Jorge/T-shirts had a new bumper sticker and the driver's newer car will not shut off unless it's in 'park'. Oh I'm just an older driver.....
