Compact or jeep?

Is a jeep really necessary to explore the island or a compact car will do fine?

I dont know if i will encounter too much off road situations where a car wont just cut it..

To get to beaches like Brava, Resaca, Tamarindo, Punta soldado etc..

I was originally just going to rent a scooter but...since we will carry bags and snorkeling equipment it would be hard to hang on a scooter.

for the same price of a scooter i can rent a compact car.

I need help here!!

Thanks

Hmmmm. Resaca and Brava beaches require hikes from parking pullouts - no 4WD necessary. Punta Soldado access has some rude potholes, but if your passenger will jump out and spot for you, you can get around them. The others have small potholes - 4WD shouldn't be an issue. The roads that require 4WD aren't legal for rent a cars, anyway. Just remember, if you don't have a high clearance vehicle you need to go slow and keep the oilpan and differential elevated from ground irregularities. Did that make sense?

as Doug said, all that matters is high clearance!

Enjoy Culebra!
