Fajardo to San Juan via El Yunque
Culebra, Puerto Rico

Hello all,

My husband I will be in Culebra during the last week of May. On our way back to San Juan we wanted to take a tour thru El Yunque. Are there any companies that offer this type of service?
Thanks

I would just fly into Fajardo on the earliest flight, rent a car one way and go to El Yunque on your own. You will not need a guide. Get there as early as you can if you want to hike to the falls. It gets busier as the day goes on. We got there early and were the only ones there. However, on the way back up the trail, there were crowds headed down to the falls. After you finish touring the rain forest, head toward San Juan and turn your car in at the airport there. I know there are tours, but I always prefer to do it on my own, as I like to be far from the maddening crowds. Enjoy. El Yunque is truly beautiful!!

The trails and paved roads are very well marked. Just stick to those and you will have no problems. You can purchase a map of the area or any of the travel guides usually have maps, as well.

Yes. No problem. Everything is very well marked. The map will be fine. The road up into the rainforest is well paved and in excellent condition. There is a welcome center with maps. Everything is extremely well marked. This is the only Rain Forest managed by the United States Parks Service.

Evidently there is limited camping available. A permit is required. Info at

There are several places to spend the night in/adjacent to El Yunuque. Do a google search.

Hey Doug, great link! Through it I found this map of El Yunque as well:

http://www.fs.fed.us/r8/caribbean/maps/ho_ey_map.pdf

It pretty much has everything on there. Of course there are the ones, that go off trail as well ... - some park rangers do not like it, BTW.

Enjoy Culebra!
