Wow Mary! Great synopsis! <sound of applause> Right on the nose.
As for doing Culebra and driving PR...I went for a driving trip around PR, meant for 3 days, ended up being 10 days (it was pre-Island Woman cart days when I worked for someone else...stopping at internet cafes to dash off "Dear boss, I really AM coming back, I swear it!)...but it was too full of interesting places on the way to the west coast to do it fast. Then once we got to Rincon, it was too beautiful to leave after just one night! Met incredible people, had to stay longer.
PR is only 100 miles long, so you could do it in a few days (get off the main roads and check out the mountain route...incredible to be up in the mountains and whoosh, have this view of the sea, many many miles away!) and still have time for Culebra..but I'm an advocate of slow travel and my thoughts would be, why not do one or the other and come back another time to do the one you didn't do, if possible, especially when you have your daughter with you and don't want it to be frazzled time? Easy for me to say, I know! You really can do both though ;)
