Current weather?
Culebra, Puerto Rico

Hi there- my family will be in Culebra for vacation in a few days and I was curious if this is rainy season in Culebra? Every time I check the weather- it seems like showers and wind are mentioned EVERY day...is this the case?

Is it still warm- or should we be packing raingear? Any insight or advice that someone currently on the island or who knows what the weather is typically like this time of year is much appreciated. Thanks in advance! :-)

Hi hockeywife,
Generally speaking the weather in the Caribbean is always warm. Check out the yearly highs and lows with precipitation here:

Hi- yes, I appreciate the link- but if you look at the forecast from that link- it shows rain every day for the next 10 days and a severe weather warning posted today....so, I am just curious from someone who is on Culebra currently- what the weather is like...thanks for any help!
Thanks again for your reply, too :-)

Did you try to call the campground phone number or one of the businesses?

Hi hockeywife, I just heard from a person who says that ' It's POURING, and we're dancing in the streets...it's been raining about two hours now. YIPPIE!'

Weather report: the rain has stopped. There is a high surf advisory. Be aware that the weather reports you see are for San Juan area and unless you really check carefully, not for Culebra. It's warm, right now it's 82 in fact, after two hours of a very nice rain.
The wind is supposed to come up some but truthfully, rain is NO reason to let your holiday not be a great one. First, the rain rarely lasts long, even if you get some every day. Second, there is rarely any lightning, so unless you hear thunder nearby, you can just wait it out without leaving the beach. Third...I know this may sound selfish, but our island REALLY NEEDS THE RAIN! Cisterns are empty (some people depend entirely on rain water for all their water needs - used to be not so long ago that there was no piped in water here at all - like...6-8 years ago, so rain is appreciated for the most part. It hasn't rained since November...
Really, don't worry about the rain, it will only ruin your holiday if you let it! I'd bring some of those cheapo ponchos, they are handy for all sorts of things beside wearing - you can cover up stuff with them, sit on them etc. and most pack up to nothing, plus they are cheap. I have a few at the cart for a few bucks and most of stores have them as well if you don't want to bring them along.

Thank you all for the comforting replies- we were there last March as well and never had any "BAD" weather- (we're from Montana- we KNOW bad weather)- but, I was wondering if maybe it was an odd spring , maybe with more rain than usual or unusually chilly- so we could try to be prepared...

Anxious to see Culebra again...and happy that you got some much needed rain as well....

Thanks to you all for your help and advice! :-)

guys, i am glad you've got some rain, but for us it is not good, we spent all this money on boat rental and on tickets, and we are CAMPING. I am just afraid that our tent will be flooded and that we wont be able to go anywhere on the boat. I am also concerned that the fight to Culebra may be delayed because of the rain.

Julia - you've nothing to worry about. It rains sporadically if at all, and daily downpours are not the norm.

Happy Diving!

Boat + Culebra weather = Perfect

We did it 2 New Years ago. We'd start at Luis Pena. It'd start to sprinkle, but we could see that it was cloudless over at Carlos Rosario. Off we'd go and tie up there. etc., etc. I saw stuff I didn't realize was there, including some great architecture. Trust me. No worry.

Sigh. Disney World is a lot more predictable...I think they have a magic dome that keeps anything that isn't perfect away for visitors.

It had a 60% chance of rain for my trip 3-23/3-29 every day, but only rained on one day. Har dofr about an hour , but being 85 degrees, everyonr was still at hte beach when it was just sprinkling.

No real need for rain gear as it is a warm rain and generally didn't have much hard rain.
As my son said pack light. All you need is a swimsuit, a pair of shorts and a couple of tshirts. also a pair of pants and maybe a jacket for the airports.
Have fun and relax!

Christy

We just got back, and the weather was bad all 3 days, it was so windy, that we could only stay on Tamarindo beach. Flamenco beach was too windy and stormy and we could not go anywhere on the boat...

Wow...and I was going to post...how cool that from that day it rained so much there was no rain, well, some spits. and really beautiful weather...but it seems Julia didn't like the wind...because 100% of the visitors who came by the cart were really happy with the weather. Julia...go to Disney World. I'm sure you'd find something to bitch about but you wouldn't be happy otherwise, so go well in the world someday. Maybe you should just build a little dome in your backyard and spread out some sand and tell yourself you are at the beach on some tropical place where everything is the way you want it to be.
Ok...maybe I'm just a bit over the top here but god. This is the REAL world and if you want something for your time and money and don't have a freaking clue about traveling, DON'T travel! This is real life - we don't program the weather or have any control over it. We're friendly and happy to share good times...but if good times mean you have spent your hard earned money hoping for perfect, sorry, we ain't got that. For the Julia Huff's (and what a perfect name), do an all inclusive, don't come to Culebra or any other *remote* island, because we can't promise a damn thing but good people, beautiful beaches - that may be rainy or full of mosquitos - markets that may have nothing you think you need but basics, gasoline that may run out, electric and water that may be on or off...please!!! Go someplace else.

Amen MJ .. amen! But you must be more patient with some folks. They don't quite get it.

Culebra. Open some days. Closed Others. ;-)

(you have trademarked that, right?) haha

oh, folks, lighten up a bit. from JH's other posts, she doesn't sound like that type.

She got three days on this go 'round. (she's posted that she's been before) frankly, I'd be a little bummed too if I'd rented a boat and didn't get to use it.

What is this "Disney" of which you speak???

and does Yul Brynner wander it?

I do tend to use Disney as the standard for all things being close to perfectly predictable on a holiday - or Club Med - because that's how those places are designed (lived in Orlando 12 years...and I'm not a major Disney World type...but maybe that is apparent?) and they do it very well and make a lot of people really happy. I do feel bad for people who have bad weather on a holiday, but it happens - and I've seen plenty roll with it and have a great time anyway. The alternative seems miserable.
Yul was last seen in Cinderella's Castle with Elvis, trading hair tips.
