Water Temperature
Culebra, Puerto Rico

I am planning a trip to the Island possibley in late December or early January. Can anyone tell me what the average water temperature is during those months? Also, this may be a stupid question, but is there a variance in the water temperature on the Atlantic and Caribbean sides of the island? Is the water warmer off Carlos Rosario than Playa Brava?

Thanks in advance for any help.

My January dive logs indicate anywhere from 73-78 degrees at depth. Of course, surface temperatures, especially in shallower water, can be 5 degrees or so warmer. If there is a variance in temperature from one side to the other, it would be minimal, not marked. You would expect the water at Flamenco Beach, for example to be warmer - not because it's on the Atlantic side, but because it's in a protected shallow bay.

Enjoy your trip!

Happy Diving!
Debbie
