Most importantly, is there a Jellyfish season?? I plan on going in March/April and love, I mean LOVE, to swim. But heard of a jellyfish season... When is this "season" they speak of, or is there even such a season. I want to avoid that.

On a side note, is there a time when mosquitos are unbearable? I'll be camping so that's why this is a concern... Thank you all and look forward to your quick responses....

Hello my friend, sharks live in the sea... so anybody who swims is getting into their territory.
As for jelly fish, the situation is the same, however, they get closer to shore, or in higher quantities from about November thru January.

As for mosquitos, I may not have stayed in every corner in Culebra, but my experience is that they are not a dilema, if they bother it will not last more than an hour or so.

Nice stay... keep swiming.

I never had a problem with mosquitos while camping on flamenco. It was the no-see-ums that were terrible. When it would rain or the temp would drop enough for the eggs to hatch, they come out of the sand and bite like crazy. They make repellent specifically for these tiny flies, so i would suggest getting some before you go down. They also sell it at the grocery store on the island. maybe i'll see you down there, i'll be there sometime around March/April.
Anyone know when the turtles usually nest and where they usually do on the island?

Mikey,
Don't stay on the lee side of the island and there will be no moquitoes. Also I have never had an encounter with a jellyfish or shark. I've been there fours years now.

I got eaten alive by no-see-ums on the beach. Just make sure you bring bug repellant, and they are not nearly as bad if you rent one of the bach chairs for 5 bucks. apparently they can't jump that high!
