camp fuel recycling?
Culebra, Puerto Rico

Hello,
I was wondering where you can dispose of empty canister fuel safely once you have finished using it on the camp ground?
Can you recycle them or do you dump them in the trash?
Thanks,

I have not seen anything specific for fuel canisters at the campground. Are you using propane, white gas, or something else? I recycle both at home by first using up all the fuel, then either removing the cap and air drying, as with white gas, or unscrewing the valve, as with propane. Then, when I am sure all the fuel is gone, I cut the metal containers open and recycle with other metals. Hope that helps.

Tim

While you're thinking about camping stoves, the stores on Culebra only had Coleman canisters last time I went. I remember because I brought a CampingGaz stove that took white gas, and ended up not cooking anything for the week. It wasn't bad--lots of salads and sandwiches aren't bad for you--but just a heads up.
