Food shopping in Fajardo?
Culebra, Puerto Rico

My buddy and I are going to Culebra for a week and are planning on taking the ferry. We are trying to save some money by cooking for most of our meals instead of eating out. Price wise is it worth it to buy food in Fajardo and bring it on the ferry instead of shopping on Culebra? If we do that where would be the best place to shop in Fajardo? I saw there is a Walmart but I don't know if they sell food at that one? Thanks in advance for any help!

You can get everything you need on Culebra. You might save a little money in Fajardo but it's a good idea to support the local economy. Milka and Mayra are my favorites. El Eden is great for wine, cheese, desserts, etc. . Have fun.

Michael is right. The stores here on Culebra have remarkably similar prices to Fajardo's, and the same variety of stuff. You might enjoy the Friday produce stand by the airport..they are friendly, efficient and pricey!

Except for booze, you can usually pay 25-75% more on Culebra. Since I'm bringing a car on 3/4 its worth it for me to load up a weeks worth at Walmart. But if you're on the passenger ferry, its usually not worth the hassle of lugging a lot the whole way. You can even get hit with a surcharge on the ferry for bringing more than a bag.
