Search this forum for "kayak culebrita" using all dates (the most recent threads on kayaking are from 2008 and 2009), and you will find several posts. Many of the questions asked have been posed by others in the past, and the search function works very well.

Per Google Earth it's about a mile kayak ride from Zoni to Norte, Zoni to Culebrita, and Tamarindo to Lois Penya. All are doable given favorable seas and winds. Not recommended on the weekends due to busy boat traffic. The current does move quite briskly between the islands. Once out in the passage off from shore you can/will encounter larger swells (not Poseidon Adventure size). If you kayak to Culebrita recommend heading to the South side of the island not the North due to swells and shallow reef forming breakers. Just look beforehand and if you see white water breaking then goto plan B sitting on the beach. Also note the water surface close to shore and then out towards the middle to see if the wind is dropping in over the island and quite higher out in the middle. Remember that your are out in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean on your own; plenty to go wrong. Be safe and enjoy!

Good evening,
Generally the folks that rent kayaks don't allow it due to (as mentioned) rough seas to open ocean & boat traffic.

Usually rentals go towards Luis Pena.

A 2 man kayak will work better as you have 2x the person power / kayak and become less tired. The guy in the back can also freeload, usually me. Pick a relatively calm day w/o a lot of wind. Doable but Lus Pena you can circumnavigate with less effort.

The person in the front also takes the splashing water in the face. LOL
