Culebra Divers is the Best!

We just returned from Culebra and our group of 6 unanimously declared that Capt. Walter Rieder and his staff at Culebra Divers http://www.culebradivers.com/culebradivers/welcome.html was the best diving experience we have ever had in our 6 years of diving!

Pat and Monika were very easy to work with over the phone (787) 742-0803, as we made our dive plans a couple of months before we left the States. Since we were diving during high season, we wanted to make our reservations in advance, and we are glad we did with this popular and well established dive operation. We firmed our plans a few days before we left Vieques for Culebra, and everything worked fine.

I went diving with Capt. Walter's 2 tank morning dives for 2 days, while my wife, our 2 children and their 2 cousins hit a beach in the morning. We met at Culebra Diver's store right across from the ferry dock at 2 p.m., where Monika and Pat offered their friendly and courteous assistance in helping everyone fill out the appropriate forms and get ready for our afternoon dives. We all agreed that the dive shop is also one of the best stores in Culebra to purchase t shirts and other souvenirs - the shelves are loaded with lots of quality merchandise.

The 6 of us had the boat to ourselves for a one tank afternoon dive. We were impressed with how much room we had on the 25' boat, due to the extra width of the boat. We had plenty of room to spread out on our short ride to the dive sites, as well as lots of room to put on our gear. After suiting up, we sat at the back of the boat, put on our fins and masks, and Walter carried our BCs to us and assisted us in putting them on. One giant stride off the ladder, and we waited on a line with a clearly marked dive flag for the rest of the group. 2 members of our group had congestion problems and snorkeled while the other 4 of us dove. After diving, we removed our fins and easily got back on the boat via the sturdy ladder.

Capt. Walter Rieder, a NAUI Scuba Dive Instructor for nearly 30 years, with more than 20 years on Culebra, is the most knowledgeable DI with whom we have ever dove, and has vast experiences diving on all of the 50 plus sites on Culebra. He is professional, courteous, conscientious, and also has a great sense of humor. He learned everyone's names as soon as we were on the boat and engaged each of us in informative and interesting conversations. Walter gave helpful introductions to each site and patiently answered everyone's questions. The 4 children said his love of diving is contagious as he pointed out numerous things to us underwater, and then discussed the sea life with us after each dive. His engaging personality quickly set each person at ease and the children all concurred that Capt. Walter contributed significantly to the best diving experience we have ever had.

Capt. Walter is also an expert photographer, having worked professionally as a photographer prior to diving, and he continues to take fabulous photos underwater. He offered me the most helpful information about underwater photography that I have received since taking a tutorial with Cathy Church's staff on Grand Cayman 2 years ago.

I'll be working on my uw photos over the next few weeks, but here are some photos of our very pleasant above water experiences with Capt. Walter in his dive shop and boat: http://honeymoon2.smugmug.com/gallery/7067389_xZqnQ#452613506_mdCBk

We give Capt. Walter Rieder, Monika Rieder, and Capt. Pat LeRoque, our highest recommendation and look forward to future diving experiences with Culebra Divers. We also had a wonderful experience vacationing on Culebra and give it our highest recommendation - pleasant, friendly people, fabulous beaches, excellent restaurants, and we thoroughly enjoyed our relaxing, very comfortable stay at Bahia Marina Condos http://www.bahiamarina.net/

all the best, alashas http://honeymoon2.smugmug.com/

Alashas,

In addition to the talents you mention, Walter is also quite good on the guitar and is rumored to be recruited by the Austrian luge team for 2010 Winter Olys ;-)
