One week stay in March
Culebra, Puerto Rico

Hi all!
4 of my friends and I are looking at visiting Culebra the first week in March. We don't know much about Culebra, but a close friend is from Puerto Rico and suggested we go to the island. We're kind of on a budget, so we're looking for a really simple, clean, nice place located on the beach. All we want to do is basically lie on the beach and swim in the ocean for a week! Does anyone have any suggestions for us? Thanks so much!

There are budgets and then there are budgets :) - what's yours?

Enjoy Culebra!

Try Casita Tropical. They have accommodations for 5 for a reasonable amount. Although it's not on the beach, the hosts can take you, take a publico or hitch hike. Places on the beach are expensive. You might be able to stretch you $ if you stay close to town. Casita Tropical is about midway and they have bikes you can use to get to town. Quite a hike to Flamenco beach, but Molly the host says it is doable. Happy Travels! J

You could stay at a place on the beach for under 50 bucks each a night with four people. But as Michael said...there are budgets and there are budgets!

I'd go back to the main page, under "vacation rentals and guest houses" and click on the comment section for "Culebra Beach Villa Rentals". I don't know if this is the place you are looking for but I had the same problem trying to specify if this was Culebra Beach Rental or Culebra Beach Villa. The latest comment for Culebra Beach Villa was in March '07. However, when I was doing my research, I found unpleasant comments in Trip Advisor: bed bugs, nasty, stinky, etc. Does someone have any recent report? J.

As I said in a personal email...that 50 bucks thing was sharing 4 ways.

As to bed bugs, nasty, stinky, etc. - all I know is friends of mine were just down here and invited me to stay with them a night at the beach villas...I didn't get bitten, or have my nose offended. What we got was seasoning offered for the meal we were grilling, lots of grins, coconut water offered every morning and peace. It was cool being a tourist for a day and night! this is not paid for by any place...it's just what happened :)

I generally find the people on tripadvisor to be a pretty negative bunch - what's your take?

Enjoy Culebra!

I like to check it out. It kept me away from places like Hotel Kokomo (across from the docks) which by the way looked like cockroach motel when we saw it up close, as well as not having very good reviews on TA. The reviews for Casita Tropical on Trip Adviser were good which is why we selected it and were very happy. Just use it as a guide; sometimes you can E-mail people and get further info. Happy travels! J.

Hi Shannon,
IMHO you could do no wrong by staying at the Culebra Beach rental right on Flamenco Beach, and if you're splitting it 4-5 ways it will definitely be cheap.
