Costa Bonita Beach Resort---C L O S E D .....
Culebra, Puerto Rico

Good afternoon everyone. I see the Culebra Forums typically stay away from "controversial" topics, but I am just curious if anyone would like to share some information on the reason(s) this resort has been shut down. I just read a person in this forum was affected by the closing and then confirmed the shut down by visiting their website. Makes me remember the sewer problem we ran into while we stayed there. Any input? If you don't feel comfortable reponding to the message, you can send me an e-mail.

Thanks!

Well, I for one, am not sad to see it go. It was only a matter of time. It was never supported by the locals. They do not want large development on their island (nor do most of us that have enjoyed this beautiful island, right?), and the permits were obtained in an underhanded manner before the locals even knew what was going on. It has been in bankruptcy more than once, so I can only presume that it's not coming out of bankruptcy this time. The only people that will suffer from this are the idiots that put it up in the first place - with apologies in advance to the persons that have reservations there, BUT believe me, there are much better places to stay and if they charged person's credit cards, it can be fought and won with a credit card company. My husband and I have joked that if we win the lottery, we'll buy it and tear it down! Or buy it and let the locals burn it down. Or buy it and give it to the locals for free housing. Or buy it and turn it into a personal music stage for my husband. Or buy it, well, you know, just fantasizing/rambling now. . . LOL!

Happy Diving!
Debbie

I hear ya Debbie. Can't say I'm sad to see it go either. Anyone with Culebra in their best interest should know that we all say NO to big developments on our precious island!

I received this from someone whose name I will not share, but who request I share this with this community....

Hi Kayra,
I am the other person that supposedly will be affected by the fact Costa Bonita is closed.
I have a reservation there for the end of December, but I still do not have any notification of cancellation.
After I run into the post about closing in the Culebra forum yesterday and checked their website (which also have the closing message), I e-mailed to the Key Management Group (NJ based company that manages the renovations of this resort, or kind of). On my past requests to them I had pretty useless but at least some replies. Currently they keep quiet: never get a reply from them about the status of my reservation since yesterday.

I am also expecting some feedback from the other source that I post my request to, and I will keep you posted once/if I get any update.

Something's very fishy going on... I have 4 tickets to SJ, and I don't know what is going to happen to my vacation (and my money).
I understand that this my note doesn't pour some light on the situation, I just wanted to share my concern...
Here's the website address of those guys (KMG): keymanagementgroup.com. It has contact persons and phone numbers. Please feel free to share this information with the others on Culebra forum.

Regards
*****

To those of you who have a reservation as far along as December you have time to get the charged anulled from your credit card company if they have charged anything. And make alternative reservations! There are plenty of nice acommodations on the Island that do not bring frowns upon the local community. You now have evidence that the place is closed. Keep us posted and thank you for sharing. We hear your concerns. If we can't do much for you, at least we can hear you vent.

Rick: How can you close me up? On what grounds?

Captain Renault: I'm shocked, shocked to find that gambling is going on in here.

[A casino worker gives Renault a wad of money.]

Casino Worker: Your winnings, sir.

Captain Renault: [Quietly] Oh, thank you very much. [Loudly] Everybody out at once.

For some graphic evidence of Costa Bonita's lack of neighborly spirit, visit our friends at CORALations.

Doug,

Thanks for that link. Hopefully, this shutdown is the beginning of the end for Costa Bonita. So glad to see that CORALations is around, so the atrocities are documented to the proper agencies.

Sue
