Aquatic Adventures
Culebra, Puerto Rico

To all those traveling to this lovely place...

It is a *must* to venture into the waters - snorkeling, diving, traveling to one of the nearby islands - Culebrita...Luis Pena Island...Lana's Cove. Two of my friends and I just got back from a visit and had an *excellent* guide - Taz Hamrick with Aquatic Adventures (787-2093494/787742-0605). This was my second time having Taz as a guide - the first being 4 yrs ago. Both experiences were fabulous!

The best part that I think is important to mention is that he will tailor your day out on the sea to whatever interests you...i.e. snorkeling, then swimming with lunch in a completely different area etc and then watching the sunset in yet another unforgettable place. I have my own equipment but he has his own on the boat that you can use and it seemed to be of good quality. To make the experience even better... with personalized instruction he was able to get my water-fearing friend (I do not say that lightly) to not only get into the ocean but to also use the gear and snorkel. By the end of the day I could hardly keep up with her!

I highly recommend using him. He was a fabulous guide, instructor and it all came at a very reasonable price. Any and all questions are welcome.

Have a wonderful time!
Amy

Can you tell me, what kind of boat does he have? Is it big enough for a whole family to go out on? I am sure it is but just wondering?

Hi Shanna,

Sorry - I am ignorant to what type of boat he has but can say that it should easily accommodate your family. On both of our excursions we had 7-8 people. I am sure if you contact Taz on the above number that he can give you more specifics on the boat type.

Have fun!

Amy (or anyone experienced)
Can you give approximate pricing for having Taz (or a similar guide) take my husband and I out snorkling? We are traveling to Culebra in December on a very tight budget (camping at Flamenco). Is a hiring a guide money well spent, or could we find plenty of adventures and good sights on our own?
Thanks for your input!

Annmarie, I charge $45 per person and if its a morning tour provide lunch on the boat..cost also includes gear...Yes there are plenty of adventures you can find on your own, but some sites require a boat...good luck n great snorkeling! Oh, I also do a 'beginners dive' also called "Discover Scuba" for those who have never been scuba diving before..cost is $100 each and includes instruction, lunch, and two dives..additional dives are $65 for two tanks...take care..Taz

I'm a fellow US Coast Guard licensed captain on Culebra (I do fishing charters) and just had a visiting friend dive with Taz for four days. Every day, she came back glowing with praise about Taz, his operation, his choice of fabulous dive sites (and just how wonderful diving IS here in Culebra), how Taz provides a great lunch, keeps and washes clients' personal dive gear each day if they're diving with him again, etc. I've been diving around the world and so has my friend... we both think his full-service dive operation is first class.

In addition to those creature comforts, I can tell you that Taz maintains his boat and equipment in excellent condition and meets or exceeds all safety requirements. I could not recommend him more.

Bonnie

Annmarie - sorry for the delayed response. I have been out of the country this past month and email was scarce. I think most rates are equivalent between people and Taz already answered that question for his tours. I do though recommend that you do at least one guided venture - as that is at least one safe and easy way to get out on the ocean and to places you can't access as easily by other means. Otherwise, you can easily explore other areas in Culebra on your own.

Have a fun trip!
