Turtle volunteering
Culebra, Puerto Rico

Hello,
I'm in Culebra the first week in April and would like to Turtle Watch volunteer on the beach, if it's the turtle egg laying season. Has anyone done this before? What's it like? How best to go about registering? I've left a message at the Culebra US Fish and Wildlife but have not heard back. Thank you.

messages left at fish and wildlife are forwarded to pr department of natural resources who runs the volunteer program, they don't have a phone number in culebra. if you don't hear from them soon, please call again, sorry for the inconvenience

and i was just now told that, as of a while back, all of the available volunteer spaces are already taken. if that is true then i will ask their permission to say that in the voicemail message. in the interest of not impacting the turtles' normal nesting behavior, that project is not designed to take lots pf people to the nesting beaches. next year please call in early january for info on who to contact for that year's volunteer coordination info. sorry.
