OK all you Culebra experts, leaving for Puerto Rico in about a week and going to Culebra for the first time on Feb 10 with another couple, going back to PR on the 12th. Have reservations at Mamacita's.

Here's what I need from you guys....wanna rent a jeep, how much do they cost, which place is better or are they all the same, are they all close to the ferry? Here's the ones I was gonna call...Coral Reef Jeep Rentals or Carlos Jeeps. Don't want to wait til I get there so any help you can give me will be appreciated. Thanks, in advance, Nance

We've used Jerrys Jeeps the last 2 times and are renting from him again in February. I believe we paid $45/ day each time. He's located across from the airport.

We used Jerry's too. The price was good and he was very helpful.

Just talked to Jerry on the phone. It is still $45 for the smallest (Samurais with manual trans.) and for larger vehicles it goes up to $60.

Jerry is a great guy, too. Always up to date on the island's activities, restaurant hours, etc. His briefings are amazing and his hand drawn maps are legendary; story goes that one sold on eBay for $50.

You are missing part of the Culebra experience if you rent from anyone other than Jerry. :)

I have heard that Carlos is very good, and he will pick you up at the ferry dock.
See... many people here fake id's to get something sold to weak minds, and maybe they all work or are related to whatever they are referring too.

I've used Carlos six times and have always had a great experience with them. The vehicles are in good condition and he or someone else is always available to answer questions. I would definitely use Carlos again, although I'm sure Jerry is good too.

I have heard that Carlos is very good, too. I'm not related to anyone on Culebra; it IS my adopted paradise, though. When I am well treated, I refer others to that business. In that way, good service is encouraged.

Guzman -

You are so full of it, I can no longer refrain from saying it! I am not a relative of anyone on Culebra, although I now have several friends there. I bet you can't say the same thing. When's the last time you actually went to Culebra? You know nothing about it except to refer people to one of the low-end accommodations over and over and over. It gets pretty old. Perhaps you just don't appreciate us gringos referring people to gringos? I've never rented from Carlos, but I haven't needed to because I've gotten such great service from Jerry. And no, I'm not related, and I've never had a relationship with him and he doesn't pay me.

You have "heard" that Carlos is very good. Well, you have heard from me and others that Jerry is very good. What, exactly is your problem with that?

It's almost like you're drunk when you post here late at night. None of your language makes any sense. What value do you really think you add to this forum?

Debbie

Hey thanks everyone for your suggestions and help. I'm gonna call them both, not to start wwIII but are either of them near the ferry? There will be four of us. I do have friends and family in Puerto Rico and am bringing 2 of them with me. Thanks again, Nance

I have used both of them (Carlos and Jerry) and also Thrifty for my transportation needs. They all have good service and provide transportation to and from the ferry terminal. Carlos and Thrifty have new models available; Jerry has an older fleet (the last time I rented with him 4 years ago). It all depends on what you are looking for (price wise and condition of vehicles) and car availability.

Enjoy Culebra!

We rented a VW Thing from someone last time. Anyone know who that was? Is he still around? It was a trip, the most fun I had driving.

Hi guys, Just want to say thanks again, called Jerry and he's booked for 2/10 and told him he's getting free advertizing on this board and he said it must be his hand drawn maps because everyone seems to like them.

I called Carlos and rented at $59.95 from them, seemed high but seem to be newer jeeps and will be picking me up at Ferry. Anyhow I'm booked and that's the last reservation I had to make for my month in the sun. Thanks again. Nance

You think that's free advertising? Wait till you see the shirt he's got tacked to the side of his shack. The guy is a piece of work. :)

I had a great experience with Carlos. The Jeep was brand new (less than 50 miles on it) and cost about $50 per day. But here's the great part. We got low on gas toward the end of our trip, but quickly discovered that neither of the gas stations in Dewey would have any gas for 3 days. In hearing our problem, Carlos provided us with enough gas to enjoy the rest of our vacation. He and his staff are friendly and helpful. I'll never go anywhere else for a vehicle rental on Culebra.

Just for the record, I wish some of you who use this forum would refrain from insulting ad hominem attacks. Good grief, we all love Culebra. People are entitled to personal opinions.

THANK YOU, Barbara! I agree with you totally on the insults and attacks here in this forum. I enjoy taking a little time now and then to read posts about people going to Culebra or having been. I don't have time to read the insults and attacks on certain people that post.

Can't everyone just get along????

Jerry"s Jeeps are my choice. Tell him Scot in NY said hello.
Such a short visit.
6 times on Culebra and we still havent seen any more of the BIG island than you can see from ther planes in and out.
But then who could want more after Culebra.

Living well is the best revenge.
