getting to Culebra from San Juan
Culebra, Puerto Rico

Just wondering about options for getting to Culebra from San Juan airport. I'm aware of the "carros publicos" and that taking one is probably the most affordable option. I am also aware that there is a fast ferry for ~68 r/t from San Juan, but I'm not sure if it's still operating (or will be operating on January 3rd). What other options are available? A one-way rental car will be ~$70 to Fajardo. What's the best plan for the budget traveller? Anyone taken this route recently?

Check out Isla Nena & AirFlamenco. I believe that theyboth fly from the International airport. (It's expensive compared to other alternatives such as ferry from Fajardo or flights from Isla Grande airport.)

I was able to book flights with Air Flamenco for $95.00 round trip. There is an additional charge of $0.45 per pound for luggage over 25lbs. The taxi from the international airport to Isla Grande Airport where they are located is about $16.00 for group in taxi plus tip. They were very nice and helpful when I called. They did advise arrival about 45 min prior to the flight time if possible. Also said if not enough room for all of the luggage that they would bring it on the next trip. ( we have some scuba gear to bring over.) Hope this helps you. We are flying over January 6th, so the price is current. Tried the High Speed ferry but they were waiting on a government contract that will keep them booked until Jan 22, and they never got back to me as to weather they got it. Good luck and have a good trip.

Great info here, thanks. We are hoping to fly between SJU and Culebra. What is the best airline for that route, and how much do tickets run?

Thanks.

We booked a flight on Isla Nena. It is $85 per person and leaves from the international airport and take only a half hour to Culebra. You can call the main number that is listed on this web site. They were very helpful and we were able to book it very quickly.
