Culebra, Puerto Rico

Hi,

Given that flying to Culebra seems to be a pain - we are thinking of staying in Fajardo and taking a day trip to Culebra for snorkling. We will need to get to Fajardo from San Juan (Caribe Hilton). What is the reccomended mode of transportation and how long would it take?

Also are the ferries between Fajardo and Culebra reliable? How expensive are the ferries?

Thanks in advance.

See Transport, Getting There over to the left on this site. Travel with Padin will get you from San Juan to Fajardo, and the ferry schedule is posted there too. The ferries are generally reliable unless they are so crowded that you can't get on, and they are cheap.

Happy Diving!

I second the Padin recommendation. We used them this past June and Jose and his wife were great.

If flying to Culebra is a pain... you do not know what is waiting for you with the ferries.
Flying is the easiest. comfortable way to get there, despite expensive.
And about the one day to snorkel... bad idea. You will only have about three hours to do it, since you must get back to the ticketing line to addure you get a ticket, and even that does not guarrantee's your seat.
One day... very bad idea, if it is weekend worst.

On the other hand Padin was late once picking me up from the airport (30min) and I missed my early morning ferry. I like his relaxed attidude, but when he refused to step on it on a completely empty highway (he was going 45) and we missed the ferry by 10 min, I was a little peeved.

Enjoy Culebra!
