Searching for Volunteer Opportunities
Culebra, Puerto Rico

Hello:

My name is Jonathan Becker and I am the President of a student group from the Pennsylvania State University called Students in Free Enterprise (SIFE). We are currently seeking a partnering group on Culebra that we could complete a service project with. Our club seeks to educate students as well as ordinary students on the topics of Financial Literacy and Personal Finance, but we are also interested in helping infrastructure development through working with Tourism offices and local chambers of commerce to complete beneficial service projects for the community.

If anyone has any leads with whom I could speak with for find or develope a service project I would be quite greatful. I enjoyed my time I spent on Culebra and many students from Puerto Rico and Dewey specifically would love to see a service project be developed between PSU and Culebra.

Again, any help would be welcome and we are open to working with any group from elementary school teachers to the local government.

Thank you very much.

Jon Becker

Jon, you should contact this group:

It is the only effective group helping the locals.

Hello Jon. The above mentioned group has done great work. There is also another organization in Culebra called "Asociacion Educativa pro Desarrollo Humano de Culebra". They have been in existence for 25+ years and provide social services to special needs families. They provide assistance and services that government agencies cannot provide, and their operating funds come from United Way, smaller organizations, and private donations. They also have provided various training workshops for various community interests. Volunteers help with various tasks and, if your group is interested in serving the community through them, please contact me and I will make sure that the Board of Directors contacts you to discuss possibilities.

Thank you,
Teresa
