New Year's Eve
Culebra, Puerto Rico

I have been to Culebra about 3 times now and ABSOLUTELY love it... SO I'm thinking of coming down with some friends for New Years Eve but I was wondering what usually goes on around there for that night? Any ideas?

Jeri :)

Jeri,

Great idea! I'll be down there with a group of buddies, also.

We came in 2001/2002, and 2003/2004. The first time there were two Latin bands set up in the plaza next to the ferry dock. They took turns playing, with one being popular Puerto Rican music and the other being more jazzy. They had nice fireworks, albeit about 15 minutes early (the only instance that "island time" was ahead of actual time, in my experience!) The last time, they had moved the party to the ball field behind El Batey, because of the construction in the plaza. I ended up at a private party for the early part of the evening, and by the time I got to the public celebration, the place was packed, so I watched the fireworks from our upstairs balcony.

One very iportant thing: I've been told that this is absolutely the busiest time in culebra. Make reservations ASAP!

Hello Jeri;

Every year we do have a party to celebrate the New year. The plaza is finish last year they celebrated there.
Most of the time we have to bands by 8.30 or 9.00pm it is full of people waiting and smiling dancing by 11:30 pm they start giving away bags with things to celebrate the new year. At 11.59 pm everybody starts to count at midnight we have fireworks people huging, kissing, smiling, dancing. It is very fun and it is a very bussy time.

So, any of you forum regulars planning to celebrate the new year on the island? I'll be there with four buddies and we're excited to be raising a glass at midnight in paradise.

Hey Doug,

We'll be there. It's become a tradition for us (this makes 3 years in a row).

We usually hang out by the dive shop. Counting down the days (37 till we get there!)

Hope to meet you!

Happy Diving!
Debbie

Help me out, Debbie...the dive shop by the ferry dock right? I think the others have closed up shop. I'll swing by and leave a note for you if you're out and about.

Happy Thanksgiving.

Yep - Culebra Divers. I figured since the party happens at the ferry dock that you would assume that was the one I was talking about. That's what I get for assuming. . . :)

Happy Diving!

We all assume. I assumed you meant hanging out there for the duration of your trip. That wouldn't surprise me because of your signature line! Anyway, we'll be there!

You can assume I like hanging out in a hammock on the porch too!

I'm all for a forum party. As I've learned from my participation on (surprise!) scubadiving.com, it's a lot of fun putting names with faces.

Happy Diving!
Debbie
