hi. we are coming to the island apr. 22,2005. I have reserved a room at the palmetto guest house. They seem very nice. Has anyone stayed here? We are both avid walkers and runners and we are not planning on bringing a car. Will we be able to get from dewey to this guesthouse w/o wheels?

I have a bit of anxiety primarily due to lack of shade. I would like to take a siesta mid day. Am I unrealistic to think this is possible?

Also, of the two bike rental shops, is one recommended over the other and should we reserve before we arrive? Thanks

I'm not familiar with this guest house, but the link from the Shelter section looks like there is plenty of shade. Their link says they are within walking distance of the airport, which puts you pretty much within walking distance of everything. It's a good 30-45 minute walk to Flamenco from the aiport, but you will be in full sun. You can hitch a ride on a publico for $2. There are few shade trees along the route. From the aiport, it's a 15-20 minute walk into town. We have stayed in the Clark neighborhood (above the playground) without a car, and it wasn't too bad to be without a car, although generally we prefer to have one.

Hope this helps.

Happy Diving!
Debbie
