I am sailing in next week. What are your favorites? A friend recommended Tina's and Barbara Rosa's, has anyone experienced these lately?

Love to eat

Tinas was very good, I do not know now since they have new owners.
La Poncena is my choice now.
Mamacitas is good too.
All these serve good local food, there are many others.

Nice chow,

We really enjoyed Barbara Rosa's ( the crabcakes were very good) and El Batey for a good burger.

If you want a fabulous upscale meal go to Juanita Bananas. It's a little more expensive than the other places but well worth it. You have to bring your wine however. You can pick up a bottle at a couple of stores on the island.

Crabcakes at Barbara Rosa's are great, too. Mamacita's has a good breakfast and pretty good dinner too. Dinghy Dock has good lobster when it's available. For a great cup of coffee try the little cafe at the Culebra airport!!

It was just one meal, but we had a totally underwhelming meal at Mamacitas. Great appetizers, but entrees that ranged from OK to terrible. (Blackened means seared and peppered, not burnt!!!)

From my trip in June, the best breakfast was served at Dingy Dock, the best burger/lunch at El Batey, and the best dinner at Barbarosa's (the shark nuggets were outstanding). If you have any further questions (about food or otherwise), feel free to email me. I love talking about Culebra and just browsing this forum reminds me of the beautiful views from our Villa, swimming in the incredible Flamanco water, waking up to roosters cries, and that ocean smell from Zoni.

When did you eat the snapper at Mamacita's? I was there in early january and had the blackened snapper and it was amazing. My wife had the crusted grouper and the crabcakes which were the best we have tried. We had a wonderful time and ended up eating breakfast lunch and dinner there on our last day. Cafe Isola on the ferry dock had a great chicken club and the coffee was pretty good too.
We tried Seabourne and were pretty unimpressed, especially for the type of establishment they are trying to be. Dinghy Dock had pretty good food, but horrible service.
Already missing culebra...

i just came back from 3 days, 4 nights in culebra and wanted give my feedback on the dining i did there. we prepared our own breakfasts and lunches during our stay, and we ate 2 nights at ricci's and 1 night at barbara rosa's. (we were planning on eating at juanita banana's the last night but waited too long to make a reservation and they were full, so we opted for ricci's again since we were staying at tamarindo.)

ricci's was great - i thought the food was delicious and the drinks (the bushwalkers!) did the trick. the tostones were at just the level of crispiness that i like! you have to start your ricci's experience by having a few drinks on the picnic tables while watching the sunset, then move inside for dinner. i only have two negative things to say about ricci's - it is a tad on the expensive side, so if you are trying to enjoy culebra on the cheap, this might not be a good spot for you. (a meal for two, two drinks each, set us back about $65.) the other drawback is the lack of waitstaff. our poor waitress was extremely nice, but she was waiting on 8-9 tables, plus people eating at the bar. consequently, it takes *awhile* to place your order and have your meal. my boyfriend and i were in no rush to eat, we were enjoying the bushwalkers too much! but other groups walked out because of the slow service. ricci, if you see this...hire another waiter!

barbara rosa's was another excellent, and in this case inexpensive meal. barbara is able to keep costs down because you order at the counter and it's byob. i had fish and tostones (instead of chips) and my boyfriend had crabcakes. all of it was delicious. ended the meal with a brownie sundae - yummie.

i'd also like to add that i went back 3 times for cookies at cafe delizioso at the airport. the cookies were great, and it's a nice little place. but you'll be hard pressed to get "service with a smile" there. the three people that served me all seemed depressed to be stuck in that little booth! i know everyone has their bad days, and i heard that the owner is a self-proclaimed night owl so maybe it was too early in the day for him to be nice to me, but come on guys, it can't be that bad of a job. i worked at a bbq restaurant and smelled like pork everyday for an entire summer. now *that* was bad. :)

all in all, my experience on culebra was an amazing one and i can't wait to go back!

I have always gone to Tinas for a good meal.
I have also heard in this forum, that there are some new to me good places, and they cook local.
There is La Poncena too, it is a small place ( about five or six seated ), but the cooking is very good.

Buen Provecho.

We returned from a week on Culebra a couple of weeks ago.

Our meal at Juanita Bananas was far and away the best we had on the island and we ate out every night with no repeats. It was also the most expensive but we knew it would be going in. They are only open late in the week and the weekend as I recall so make sure you plan ahead and make reservations as it does fill up.

Ricci's was also very nice once you had the insect repellent on.

We enjoyed a meal at a nice local place call La Bahia Seafood (not Bahia Marina).

Another enjoyable dining experience was the grilled Tiger Prawns we had late one afternoon at Coconut's Beach Grill at Flamenco Beach...outstanding! Be careful of the sangria they serve there...it is sneaky but fun.

I went to Culebra for my honeymoon in August of 2004. I love Barbara Rosa's food. I ate chicken parmesan and my husband had spaghetti. Jim is an outstanding host. I ordered shark nuggets but they were out of it. When I go there this summer I will make sure I get them the second time around.

Jorge,

Tina's is no longer called Tina's, but is still referred to it that way by those of us that new it as Tina's. Anyway, it's on the street next to the playground, past Marcos' Colmada on the right side of the street. Marcos and his wife operate it now. I can't recall it's current name.

Happy Diving!
Debbie
