best family places
Culebra, Puerto Rico

This has been such a great forum to gather tips, etc... We are hopefully going to be in Culebra the first week in April. My head is spinning as I try to decide on which place to rent. Has anyone on this list been to Culebra with a family (13, 10 and 2 y.o.). Would it be better to be closer to town or more remote? We of course love the beach, but how important is it to be right on one? Does anyone have info. on the volunteer to count turtle egg outing?
What is not to be missed with the kids? Any personal experiences traveling there with children would be much appreciated. ~~Wendy

You should look for a house near ZONI beach, or La Pela.
They are not closer to town, so you will need a car.
Esle, you may want to try Villa Boheme, and ask for three or four rooms.
It very familiar, beach front ( not to swim) and walking distance to groceries, and restaurants.
I would go after Culebrita, but you'll need a boat, ZONI beach is beautiful, and most Culebra beaches are just wonderful.

In the first mentioned, you might have to cook, pay lot more, but you will be more comfortable. Villa Boheme has a community kitchen, A/C, but no TV.
There is also Villa Fulladoza, right beside Boheme, they have TV, but no A/C.
If you will be using the ferry's first trip, better be there before 0800, if not sooner.

Nice stay...

Hi Wendy
Culebra is great for kids. Have you looked into staying at Tamarindo Estates? The cottages (which are really like small apartments) have full kitchens and the grounds are quite kid friendly. They have a pool and a beautiful beach for snorkeling which overlooks Luis Pena. I have stayed there in the past and I remember one of the buildings having a gazebo with a charcoal grill for outdoor cooking. That building in particular seemed good for families with children of all ages. One of my nicest memeories of my Culebra vacation was just sitting on my patio at Tamarindo looking at the ocean and watching the sunsets. The place is really well kept. We opted for a rental car and found that after exploring all day it was nice to come back to Tamarindo and enjoy the quiet. It is somewhat secluded but is an easy 10 minute drive from town. Check out their website. Good luck with the planning.
