weather question
Culebra, Puerto Rico

My last trip to Culebra was in March of this year. I stayed at the Culebra Beach Villas. To wake early every morning, throw on a denim shirt over my bathing suit and walk the beach, what can I say, heaven. Just me and the beach dog (who's Chow is that anyway?).

I will be returning on Christmas day and staying for 9 days. My first trip was at Christmas time, but it was so long ago that I can't remember what the weather is like.

Thanks for any info you have.

Also, any suggestions for day trips and any advice on the best way to get a cab?? The payphone at the Villas works off and on (mostly off!).

I was on Culebra for New Years 2002 and 2004. In 2002, the weather was gorgeous, although there was significant turbidity in the water, particularly on the windward beaches. In 2004, the weather was more unstable, with scattered showers and non-typical westerly winds. It was the only time I've ever approached Culebra International from over Ensenada Honda, rather than from Playa Flamenco. Very different experience! Both times there was plenty of beautiful beach weather, and last year the island was so green, I thought I was in Hawaii (well, maybe not Hawaii, but...)

Enjoy.

thanks Doug

The landing on my last trip in March was memorable. The winds were so wicked that on the approch between the two mountains the plane got caught in a cross wind and went sideways, just missing the side of the mountain. I had my head buried in my friends lap and she (being a true pal) just laughed it off and said "oh it's just like a rollercoaster!" When we stepped into the airport the people waiting to leave were open-mouthed and ashen. One asked my friend "how was that landing?" "terrifying" was all she said.

As a 7 time veteran of that flight, I usually just try to be entertained by the virgins...it is never dull!
