Is electricity still on generators? If so what hours do they run.

It is, but there's power (almost) 24/7

Enjoy Culebra!

It was 24/7 last week with no interruptions.

I have heard that FEMA - including its generators - will leave soon, setting Culebra back to 6PM-6AM power only.

Any confirmations on that?

Enjoy Culebra!

The folks at the electric company are saying the same thing. I think end of March. I find it outrageous if they took them only to warehouse them back in the states and leave the island w/out electric.

Per yesterdays town meeting: Electricity - the cable that runs under the water from the main island to Vieques to Culebra has to be replaced. It will take 6-12 months for that to happen. The Army Corp of Engineers and FEMA have guaranteed to keep the large generators and supply of diesel for Culebra until regular full electricity is restored.

Geronimo, that's a typical good news/bad news situation. IMO they should create energy independence, not recreate the same failure prone centralized grid - again ..
How long could the generators on the island be run for the cost of the new cable? Not that the generators are a good idea, but someone should make those calculations ... and in the meanwhile build a solar plant where the dump is ..

Enjoy Culebra!

Michael, I agree with your thoughts of becoming independent and green.

Hurricane season starts in 3.5 months and the Jetstream is north of the Caribbean basin. :o(
