Villa Boheme Experience
Culebra, Puerto Rico

WE JUST STAYED AT VILLA BOHEME FOR 3 NIGHTS. THE ISLAND, BEACHES, SIGHTS AND ITS PEOPLE ARE WONDERFUL, BUT VILLA BOHEME IS AWFUL.

THE BATHROOMS WERE VERY SOILED AND DIRTY. YOU HAVE TO TAKE A BATH WITH SANDALS ON.

THE LINEN IS IN VERY BAD SHAPE AND ALL MISMATCHED.

THE CURTAINS DO NOT OPEN OR CLOSED. MINE WAS OPEN AND I COULD NOT ROLL IT DOWN.

THE SLIDING DOORS TO THE BALCONY DO NOT OPEN UNLESS YOU CARRY IT TO THE SIDE.

THE COWWEBS FROM SPIDERS WHERE ALL OVER THE PLACE.

NO BEACH TOWELS AVAILABLE.

CATS WHERE EVERYWHERE AND THEY KEPT SPRAYING THEIR AREA WITH URINE. SO TOWELS, T SHIRTS OR HATS LEFT IN THE BALCONY TO DRY WERE VERY SMELLY IN THE MORNING.

WORST LIABILITY WAS THAT THE OWNERS WERE RUDE AND NON -CARING.

WE BOOKED AND PREPAID 6 ROOMS FOR 3 NIGHTS FOR A FAMILY OF 14 AND THEY WOULD NOT HEAR OUR MAIN COMPLAINT, THAT THE ROOM WE PAID $40.00 EXTRA DOLLARS A NIGHT ($135.00 EA. NITE) FOR A KITCHEN, THE STOVE DID NOT WORK, SO WE COULD NOT COOK AS PLANNED. THIS IS ROOM #10, DO NOT STAY THERE BECAUSE THE A/C IS NOT LARGE ENOUGH FOR THE ROOM. IT IS VERY HOT.

THEY KEPT ON TELLING US TO LEAVE IF WE DID NOT LIKE IT, INSTEAD OF TRYING TO PLEASE US AS INTELLIGENT AND GOOD BUSINESS PEOPLE WOULD HAVE DONE. WE SPENT OVER $1,800.00 IN 3 NITES FOR ACCOMODATIONS THAT WERE NOT UP TO ANY DECENT STANDARD.

I HOPE AMERICANOS WILL SEE THIS AND DECIDE TO STAY SOMEWHERE ELSE MAINLY BECAUSE OF THE OWNER, RAFI MURATTI AND HIS WIFE, HAVE A VERY BAD ATTITUDE TOWARDS THEIR PAYING GUESTS.

ON THE OTHER HAND, THE BEACHES, THE SIGHTS, THE FOOD, AND THEIR MOST IMPORTANT ASSET, THEIR PEOPLE (CULEBRENSES) WERE GREAT AND BEAUTIFUL. GO VISIT.

This lady had a personal problem with the owners of Villa Boheme!!!
First of all, her reservation was not prepaid, she paid with a check at
checking time, next, she was part of a puertorican family group, and she was the only person who was not happy with her accommodation, or perhaps the rate of her studio apartment. She spoke to the owners for a discount, complaining about every single thing you could think of, even offered her services as a decorator.......let's get real here!!!! Lady, you were a total pain!!!!!I would pay you to stay in your house!!!!! I am sure you are a pain everywhere you go and enjoy the hell out of it!!!
I am deeply sorry for the Morattis that had to put up with your behavior at their place!!!! Like I told you, you just can not go to a restaurant, eat, and then argue about the price and service, just because now that you are full, you do not want to pay the charge!!!!!
Best Regards,
Nelly

Typical Culebra response, always an excuse for poor service. Instead of trying to improve service for the next guest and show visitors to this board that this is not typical, the locals prefer to make excuses and blame the tourist.

I don't get it... We have stayed at Villa Boheme twice and have liked it both times. I'm not a "local" and I'm sure that others have had the same kind of positive experience we've had. The person who took care of us is named Rico. Both he and Villa Boheme were delightful.

I was just at Villa Boheme and had a wonderful experience. I was lucky enough to find a room there, since it was completely booked. I was there for a day with my 20month old girl, and needed a room for the night. Someone had a double reservation and I was lucky enough to get the second room. Hotel management even let me stay there for one night even though there was a two night minimum on a busy weekend. I was searching for a place to stay for a couple of hours only to find really basic accomodations or villas too far from anything.
My room was very comfortable and clean, the hotel was cute as can be, most of the rooms have a water view, there are hammocks and swings right by the water and a toddler playset & swing in a pleasant plaza like area right by the water. You can bring your boat too!!. Everybody was very nice and accomodating. I'll definetly stay there next time I go to Culebra. My only bad experience was with the ferry service to Fajardo. On a busy weekend there is no telling when you will get on.

I stayed at Villa Boheme with three friends last year. We found it to be clean everywhere. Yes, there were cats around which we, being cat lovers, really enjoyed. The kind family managing Villa Boheme made sure the cats had food as did the guests. The community kitchen is only as clean as those using it leave it when they are finished. The person leaving the complaint probably complains about the Hilton Hotel too. People like this should just stay at home and spare the rest of us the grief!! My friends and I will return to Villa Boheme next year!

I also visited Villa Boheme recently. After staying for two awful nights at Harbor View Villas, I changed to Villa Boheme, where not only were the rooms cheaper, but cleaner, prettier and generally better. I came to stay for two nights and ended up staying five! They were nice enough to let me stay.

If the lady who posted the complaint had some problems, I am sure they must have been at that particular room or at that particular occasion, meaning that her room had a kitchen and it was possibly broken when they were supposed to use it. You could have used the common kitchen instead, which I used and found very convenient.

About the decor and mismatched sheet sets in the bedrooms, I would only say that I personally find that a minor inconvenience - or rather no inconvenience at all - considering that the real beauty of Culebra is not in its hotel rooms, but in its beaches and nature. If anyone is looking for a nicely decorated room while traveling to Culebra, I would say they are definetely visiting the wrong place.

I strongly recommend Villa Boheme to anyone. I stayed there by myself, and found the peace, quiet and minimal comfort I was looking for after a disastrous start at Harbour View Villas.

What in the world is this lady talking about. Four of us wandered into Dewey fresh off of the ferry only to find that our confirmed reservations at (I'll refrain from trashing the establishment) were in fact neither confirmed nor reserved for us. The place was full and we were left on our own to figure out a place to stay. One of the locals recommended that we cross the bridge and walk up the hill to a place called Villa Boheme. When we arrived we explained our plight to the check-in staff and they bent over backwards to accomodate us. We loved the room, loved the island, and loved the way we were treated. Service was extended even after we checked out as they allowed us to store all of our luggage with them until the ferry arrived....giving us the day to enjoy ourselves. Mismatched towels and washcloths ?? Washed and dried pretty well if you ask me ?Cobwebbs ?? Uh, forgot to check ?! Cats ?! Saw a couple....they didn't pee on my towels. Discount ?? I'd pay double to go back and do it all over again !!!! We still weigh all of our vacations by our "Culebra experience" ! C'mon lady, get a life......or at least try to enjoy the one you've got !! And if you can't, stop ruining everyone else's in the process !!

Hello:
I was reading several experiences of guest staying at Villa Boheme and surely the one of that lady is a rotten apple. We have been staying at Villa Boheme for the last four years 3 to 4 times a year, and we had never got any problem. The Murratis are excelent people, and we enjoy a lot the resort. We usually travel in our own boats and spend quite a beautifull vacations, we are a family of 10.
I was trying to book for the long weekend of Sept.4 to 6, and I was very dissapointed because there is no availability, and my husband does'nt want to go because the only place where he stays is there.
So tell that lady she better stay at her house, anyway she is the one thats going to loose the beautifull beaches of Culebra.

Kathy:

Please read the rest of the posts about Villa Boheme. They are all very positive. My experience there has been positive also. If you are still concerned, Villa Fuladoza is a good alternative.

Villa Boheme IS VERY CLEAN. Period. If you check, there is only ONE bad review, which I doubt had anything to do with the reality of how the place was. So stay there and you won't regret it!

the lady with the complaints is nuts. we've stayed at other places on Culebra but plan to stay at Villa Boheme every time from now on (and we've been there the last two years). The rooms are CLEAN - the owners/operators are VERY niCE and the guests are friendly. We have had a great time there and I am on this site because I'm tryingto book for this year!!!!

My partner and I stayed at Villa Boheme in Feb 2004. We stayed in a 2nd floor room and all was great. The manager was around but not intrusive or rude. We made reservations over the phone several months in advance and did not even check on them (okay, that was dumb) But our reservations were on record and all was ducky.

Holy Moly, what an unhappy customer. We stayed at Villa Boheme on our first trip to Culebra in 2000, when Rico and his family were managing it, and our experience was wonderful. Nice people, nice rooms, nice view, etc. I would stay there again, and suggest that people not let this bitter woman's review turn them away from VB.

This lady must be nuts, what was she expecting WHYNDHAM, WESTIN.
There are not luxury hotels in Culebra, next time go to the villas in the mountains, where a week costs about 3000.00.
I have visiting Culebra since 1984, unfortunately I did not look into Villa Boheme, until two years ago.
Since then, I have stayed there every time posible, and available.
There are cats, but doesn't animals share a common areas in open ground.
Rooms are very good, the owners are good, nice people, I have the opportunity to meet Rico and his wife, they are supper, and now there is Juan, who always look to please you and give that extra mile.
In my opinion this is the best place to stay in Culebra, for the price they charge.
Keep going Villa Boheme see you soon.
