Our First Visit
Culebra, Puerto Rico

Hello,

We are a couple coming to Culebra and staying (we think) near Melones Beach hopefully the first or second week in June.

It sounds like this is the beginning of the rainy season, but reading through the forums it sounds like June is still very nice. We plan to explore the beaches and we'd like to rent a kayak or two for the duration of our trip (about a week). Can anyone tell me, do the places that rent the kayaks provide some sort of straps and mounts so we can get the kayaks around the island via vehicle or is it better to rent them and use them where you rent them? If they can/should be moved around with a vehicle does anyone have any suggestions on the best vehicle to rent? I think it would be fun to rent a golf cart but it might not be practical. Anyone have any thoughts on vehicle selection?

Finally - how bad is the heat in June? I've heard it can be pretty hot. My fiance will love it - but I'm a little concerned about being able to sleep.

Thank You - this website seems like a terrific resource for information

You are going to LOVE Culebra.

Yes the Kayak renal place by the airport will strap them to your vehicle. You want that because you will be driving to lots of different areas.

If you plan on seeing the "off the beaten path" beaches you want to go with the Jeep. It is worth every single penny to have a jeep on Culebra. Not all the roads are paved and it is VERY hilly on the island.

Enjoy Culebra, and be prepared to want to come back again and again.

Paul

It's not bad in June. Aug and Sep are the hot months with little to no breeze. so you'll be fine.
