food allergies
Culebra, Puerto Rico

We will be traveling to the island in February with our 4-year old son who has some food allergies. Can anyone shed some light on the availability of the following foods:
--gluten free bread
--coconut milk (in a carton in the dairy section, not canned goods)
--Daiya brand cheese (or other vegan cheese)
--Earth Balance vegan butter
Thanks so much!

You may wish to bring as much of the "special" food you can with you. You can't bring cheese on a plane. Won't pass security. Not sure about the other items you mention. have never looked. you can try calling Milka's grocery store and asking them.

Vibra Verde may have some of the items you are looking for.

Thanks for your ideas. We haven't been to the island in a couple of years. What/where is Vibra Verde?

Next to the Catholic Church there are a few permanent kiosks. One has fresh fruit and vegetables, one has regular criolla fast food and the third one is Vibra Verde. You can find out more from the great reviews on TripAdvisor. They serve healthy food, drinks, etc. They also have (or had when we we last there) a few shelves with health food items and a cooler with yogurt in it. BTW on TripAdvisor it's under Puerto Rico instead of Culebra, where it should be.

I have never tried to bring cheese on a plane to Culebra, but I have taken it through several other airports. I just take it out of my carry-on and send it through separately so they can see what it is, rather than having a solid suspicious-looking mass show up when my bag goes through.

Well departing from the DC/Baltimore area they confiscate cheese. Not sure why the security might be tighter around DC. ;o)

We have traveled with cheese in the checked luggage with no problem

I notified TripAdvisor last year that Vibra Verde is in Culebra and asked them to change it but they never did. We're going to Culebra in a few weeks and I can't wait to eat there again!
