August Snorkelling and Dive Conditions?
Culebra, Puerto Rico

I've been to Culebra in Dec, Jan, Feb, and March and know what to expect with the weather and ocean conditions. We are planning our next trip to Culebra and plan to stay for 2 weeks and are considering August. We spend much of our time in the water, having kayaked to Luis Pena and Culebrita on previous trips but the surf conditions where a little rough this past March 2012.

Do conditions such as surf, wind, and water clarity vary in August when compared to the Dec through March period? It looks like the water temps are up a few more degrees and the winds may slow a bit. Do the waves at Flamenco tame down to much, making bodyboarding for the kids less exciting?

If the crowds are less, as I read on this forum by searching previous post, do certain businesses in Culebra close?

I would appreciate any comments that explain any differences I could expect for an August Culebra visit.

Thanks,

Tim

It will be hot in Aug. The winds will be way down and perhaps none at all. The water temp is very nice and warm and will be calm. Great for kayaking and snorkeling. Probably won't have any high seas to body surf. Grocery stores will be open. Busy at Flamenco with PRs coming over for their summer vacation. School will be out.

Thanks Geronimo. I was hoping for a difference. During our visit this past March we had some of the steadiest stiff breezes I have seen. I've been to Jamaica in August. The conditions were very similar to what you have described for Culebra. I enjoy Culebra much more. The activities and people on Culebra just seem to be more my type.
