I know air Flamingo and Vieques air link fly from Isla Grande airport. Do any airlines fly from Louis munoz airport?

No, but apparently Cape Air will be soon. However, personally I would stay with Air Flamenco. I also heard that Jet Blue will have more flights into SJU but watch out they nickel and dime you to death with seat and bag fees.

Has anyone ever flown on Isla Nena Air Service? I assume they fly out of Isla Grande.

I have in the past, but I'm not sure whether they still fly.

if you are a group of 4 or 5, then consider a charter out of SJU. The charter cost can get close to or be better than the options out of Isla Grande. Then you factor in all the additional saved time and convienence of charter....just a thought

Frank,

As you may know, they are merging with Southwest, and I imagine many of their policies will be implemented. I had an excellent experience with them from St. Louis to SJU this past May, and a Ceiba terminus would be terrific for Vieques or Culebra bound passengers. Heck it would be terrific for USVI and BVI and beyond, if they have a Customs/Immigration facility.

We (family of four) have chartered with Air America and Culebra Air Services in the past. Very convenient from SJU, but this year $1100 round trip for our family, versus under $600 for Vieques Air Link. ($148 per person RT)

So if there is a way to get a charter for 4 or 5 close to the fares for Air Flamenco or VAL, I'd love to know it!

The question my wife has is: Would anyone hesitate to fly Vieques Air Link over the charters for safety reasons?

VAL & AF are perfectly safe. And you can book online.

We flew VAL. I was a bit nervous about the small plane. Heck, I'm nervous about the big plane. I'm happy to say I was very pleasantly surprised. The flight from San Juan to Culebra was like floating on a cloud. I'm not exaggerating. It was smooothth. Like a good aged dark rum. Of which a couple shots before the flight would be enjoyable. I didn't even realize we were off the ground at first. Well, that's because I had my eyes closed! When I opened them we were over San Juan and the view was spectacular. I sat on the right side, if you want an ocean view sit on the left side, but the right side is better. So we flew along the coast past Isla Verde, past Luquillo, and past Fajardo. Soon we were approaching Culebra. I knew what it looked like because I had been studying the map and dreaming about this moment for only about a year and a half! Flying over Flamenco beach was awesome and the landing was perfect. We absolutely love flying to Culebra. We took the ferry back to Fajardo, which was also really nice and smooth, because we were staying in Puerto Rico for a while. Next time we are going to fly AF just for comparison purposes and to support local business. It was very safe and exciting in a good way and fast.

Southwest merged with Air Tran. They will absorb and eliminate air tran. they are the worst when it comes to fees. seperate fees if you want to pick your seat, for carry on and for breathing. i am glad to see them go. we will see how SW acts.
with a group or four or more, I would suggest hiring a private driver(johnspublico@yahoo.com) to take you to ceiba for a cheap flight or fajardo for an even cheaper ferry.
either way with a large group it is worth it to go to Ceiba.
