Mamacita's Guest House - I hope I haven't made a mistake!

Wow, I have never seen so many 5 star and 1 star reviews for a place on Trip Advisor.

My reservation is supposed to be on the canal side, so the noise may not be a concern.

The mention of bedbugs scares the crap out of me. I hope they were just mosquitos.

If the place is truly bad, I guess I'll just take a loss on one night's $.

Everyone loves the restaurant, but I understand that the guest house is a separate matter.

I've stayed many times at Trade Winds on Vieques, and my expectations are pretty realistic. If it's clean, safe and I don't get eaten by bed bugs, and the mattress is reasonable comfortable, I'm good.

I thought that for a first-time visitor being near the center of town might be better.

I personally have not stayed there. We have never stayed in town and enjoy the solitude out of town. I would see the noise being a major factor. Downtown can get a bit noisy after dark! Especially on weekends.

On one visit we rented La Casita, right smack in the heart of town. Human noise was rarely a problem. On the other hand, the roosters seem to prefer not to wait for the sun to come up to start announcing the start of day. Sometimes they anticipate it by several hours LOL.

The canal side won't be quiet until the bar/restaurant closes at night. It's a happy noise but a noise, nonetheless.

One suggestion would be to stay at the bar until close ;o)

I've spent enough late nights at Banana's, Al's Mar Azul and others in Vieques that midnight is not a problem for me. : )

I even found a jeep at Carlos' Jeeps! Progress.

Now as long as I can get a ferry ride or Air Flamenco on demand flight back to the main island on the afternoon of the 28 th I'm good.... I tried to call the ferry to make a reservation several times but of course they're not answering.

You will have better luck reaching the Pope on the phone than the ferry ticket office. And you can not make a ferry reservation by phone. First come first serve at the ticket window.

Can you make a reservation for a future day if you show up a couple of days early at the ticket window?

Stephen, with reference to the ferry...sometimes they do let you schedule in advance...and sometimes they don't!! We run a guesthouse here in Culebra and sometimes is tough getting back from Fajardo :). Enjoy your stay!

Stephen C, when you say that you have made a reservation for the ferry for a future day, did you purchase the ticket and get it in hand for that future day or are you saying that they took your name down on a list?

Neither. I was asking if it was possible for me to go down to the ferry ticket window on May 26 (or 27) once my plane lands and make a reservation for May 28 5 PM?

I'd love to do it on the phone, but as folks on here have said, that seems unlikely.

If I understand the schedule correctly, there's a 6 PM cargo boat that I might be able to catch if I am not allowed on the 5 PM passenger boat?

I just have some important work meetings and really need to make my 8:15 AM flight Tuesday morning at SJU - but the only available scheduled flights Culebra-Isla Grande are Monday morning and I'd miss most of that day on Culebra. So I'm hoping that by being flexible and having backup options I can leave after 3 PM on Monday, one way or the other.

As long as Air Flamenco comes through with their walk-up on-demand additional flights to Ceiba on Monday afternoon, I should be just fine. I was asking about the ferry as a backup plan.

SOLVED IT! Yes.

I forgot to check Vieques Air Link for flights to Ceiba instead of SJU. I found a 5:30 Monday flight. PERFECT.

So, no ferry worries - I have a definite way back to SJU. I realize I'll need to split a taxi or find a bus, but I have all night to get back to San Juan, so that's no big deal.

I appreciate all your help. I'm starting to get really excited about this trip.

And I'm sure Mamacita's will be fine. I'm just going to have a cocktail and enjoy the band... : )
