We plan to visit PR in February with family of 4 staying in Fajardo and want to snorkel. Culebra was recommended. My wife doesn't handle waves well at all, either on a boat, or while snorkeling, so I'm thinking we should fly from Ceiba to Culebra rather than take the ferry or a snorkel tour from the main island (plus hopefully save some time).
I read in another post that finding calm waters for snorkeling depends on the wind. Is that seasonal to where we'd expect one side or the other to have calmer waters in February? Or are some beaches so well protected that they'd be a good choice any time? Or will ALL the waters be more choppy in the winter?
There seem to be a lot of recommendations for Melones and Tamarindo beaches as good places to snorkel from shore. My family won't wander out very far.
Is it easy to just get a taxi at the airport without arranging it ahead of time and head to a beach, then get another one later to try another beach? We'll only be there for the day.
Any recommendations for this day trip would be appreciated.
