Hi all;

My wife and I would like to go explore whatever areas have the most giant turtles... what will provide the best experience this time of year? Do we need to hike, kayak or snorkel? We would love to snorkel where there are a lot of them... but I believe is brava or resaca and we havent heard much about snorkeling in those areas... were also not sure about the route and whether we would have to be crazy to attempt it given all the mosqiotoes, your expert advice and thoughts are appreciated!

Turtles are hit or miss anywhere you go. There are not large populations of them just hanging around, unfortunately. We are divers, and sometimes we see one or two; sometimes we see none. Snorkeling, we tend to regularly see turtles at Tamarindo.

Do NOT attempt to snorkel at Brava or Resaca The surf is too dangerous even for swimming. They are nice, deserted beaches to hang out on and get some sun, but they are not for the faint of heart (neither is the hike in).

Happy Diving!
Debbie

If you snorkel at Zoni go out about 50' to the grass line, where the water color changes, and you may see lots of other smaller turtles. I usually see lots of them from the beach coming up for air. It is rare to see a leather back around the beach during the daylight hours. They must hang out farther out to sea.

I recently saw several turtles while paddle-boarding at Playa Tortuga on Culebrita... four in the span of two minutes. They were all along the east end of the bay... between the 'jacuzzis' and the beach... looked like the snorkeling could be good there.
